Emerging from Melbourne's underground club scene in the late 1990s, Simona began DJing and performing in 2001. Across her music career, she has supported major artists Ladytron, Peaches, Drab Majesty, !!!, Moon Duo, Black Cab and Cut Copy. In 2009, she founded The Shock of the New, a semi-regular trans techno party in Narrm. Her DJ sets move between Chicago/Detroit house and techno, European techno/electro, Italo/Hi-NRG, new beat/EBM, with a dark, queer post-punk flavour. These selections connect the music that has shaped her own work as a producer and performer: drum machines, arpeggios, guitars, vocals and the dancefloor.

As a recording artist, Simona Castricum has released five solo albums, with her latest, Villain, released in September 2026. She has received multiple Music Victoria Award nominations for Best Solo Artist and Best Electronic Artist, two Australian Music Prize longlistings, and a 2024 AIR Award nomination for SINK. Her album Panic/Desire debuted at #1 on the AIR 100% Independent Albums Chart. Her music has been remixed by Aérea Negrot, Chiara Kickdrum and Various Asses, and she has remixed for Courtney Barnett, Hydra Fashion Week, m8riarchy, Cong Josie and Pillow Pro.

Simona Castricum is the founder of music label Trans-Brunswick Express (TBE). TBE supports trans and queer artists through recording, vinyl manufacturing, publicity coordination and live performance. Partnering with Poison City Records for physical distribution, TBE releases music by LXRP, Simona Castricum, SaD, and Light Transmissions.
